1. Many prominent Seventh-day Adventist resisted church organization because many felt it was
a return to Babylon. They felt the itch of the organized churches that rejected the Millerite call.
They did not want to swap the religious freedom they were relishing for the cold blanket of a
controlled church. The organization, according to them was not consistent with gospel freedom
(White, 1942).
2. The conditions that triumphed in church organization were the establishment of union
territories amongst the general conference committee and the local conferences. This distributed
much of the church’s decision making. The expansion of the General Conference Committee to
twenty-five widened the base of making decisions. There was the establishment of policies that
would enable the movement of resources from thriving conferences to those that had limited
funds. Departments such as the Sabbath School Department would operate on the General
Conference, the union, and the local conference levels (White, 1950).
