- LI + 2 H,0 – 2 LiOH+H, Watch the video that shows the reaction of lithium metal with water at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAr6Lbb_qvQ Record your observations about the reaction in the video. flowing bubbles evaporation little bit of steam -, a little bit of reaction ( carclay around) 3. Next we will go one down the periodic table in Group IA and see how sodium reacts in water. You can watch that video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bAhCHedVB4 4. Record your observations. - higher reaction flame I fire) in the top of water. steam - floway in the top your observations below: https://www.yo mu uch higher interaction (circling around in the top of ander fasters evaporation Steam - big fire (flane) 6. What are the similarities among the reactions? Differences? Did you see any trends in reactivity? the similarities, interaction occurred with H2O for all of them. Differences, each substance. had a certain level of interaction such as potassium had the biggest reaction with H₂O and lithium had less reaction thein sodium. ik> Na li 7. Based on the reaction given for lithium metal with water, write out the reactions of sodium and potassium with water. Explain your reasoning. 2 Nas) +2H2O + 2 Na OH Car Ha (g) LI + 2k1s) + 2 H2O 2 Kothens + H₂ (9) 8. What would be your predictions about the reaction of rubidium (Rb) and cesium (Cs) with water in the same grouph as Since both of them are Na, K and Li, they will react with matter, but with higher reaction (esplosio), due to band(Cs) are much denser and all the way down of (IA) group. 9. Watch the following video and record your observations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m55kgyApYrY explosion accumed when it was placed in the bathtub much reation and explosion with water. 10. Were your predictions about the Rb and Cs metals correct? Yes, it were 11. What general statements can you make about the reactivity of the alkali metals as you go down a group in the periodic table? Explain your reasoning. elements the same group have the some properties, but as we go down of alkaliometals group, highber reaction would occurred with H2O. B. Alkaline Earth Metals (Group IIA) 1. Clean a piece of magnesium ribbon with sandpaper or steel wool. Add about 2 mL of deionized water into a small test tube. 2. Place your magnesium into the water and record your observations. little bit of bubbles. (white with bubbles). 39 3. Watch the video of calcium in water and record your observations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMQPKQKamhk like bothy lot of bubbley 0 a steam - Intreaction a little harshy. 4. What similarities did you notice between calcium and magnesium? Differences? Similaritres, all react with water causing bubbles and steam. Differences both calcium and magnesium react with water, but calcium harshly 5. Clean another piece of magnesium ribbon. Pour about 2 mL of 6 M HCl into a small test tube. neacts more 6. Place the magnesium ribbon into the acid and record your observations. a little bit of interaction - bubbury a little steam temportura Incraldse 7. Watch the video of calcium in acid and record your observations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q72nsOFSj-O getty more interation love bolly bubbly 40 both they have the same properties, but different Interaction. 9. What general statement can you make about the reactivity similarities and differ- ences between magnesium and calcium? Magnestum reacts with auld less then calcium did that's provide element in 11A have the same Interaction with acid PART II. HALOGENS (GROUP VIIA) 1. Put about 2 mL each of 0.1 M NaCl, NaBr, and Nal into their own test tubes. 2. Into each test tube, add 2-3 drops of 0.1 M NaNO, Record your observations Nad nothing happen. Nage nothing happen Na I nothing happen 3. Put 2 mL each of 0.1 M NaCl, NaBr, and Nal into an additional three test tubes. 4. Into each test tube place 2-3 drops of 0.1 M AgNO, Record your observations. Nuch more yellow less Interaction NaBr milly in the bottom Not: millly a little bit in the middle.

Spectroscopy Lab
Introduction
Spectroscopy phenomenon is used in chemistry to differentiate substances based on their
colors. By using different techniques it is possible to identify a particular ions present in a given
compound. Burning and reaction of meatal with acids or water are processes that can be used to
differentiate one element from the other by color of light they produce when analyzed in a
spectroscope. Foer example when a metal like magnesium is reacted with hydrochloric acid, the
solution can be tested for the presence of magnesium ions when the solution undergoes flame
color test. Every element has its defined flame test color (Basher, Dingle and Green).
In the experiment, various metals and non-metals from specified groups of the periodic
table were reacted with water, acid or another chemical chemicals to study their reactivity rate.
The experiment a done to make observations and compare reaction observations among elements
within the same groups. Observation of reaction between substances and practical mixing of
chemical were the methods employed in the experiment. It is important to care about the
experiment because it is useful i...
