Kate Chopin’s ‘The Storm’ was set in Louisiana in the 19th century. The piece explores a
woman’s unexplored passion and infidelity, an uncommon occurrence at the time. The passion
and intensity which leads Calixta and Alce to commit adultery are figuratively likened to a storm
in the wake of an actual storm. The events in the entire story take place during a storm and come
to an end as the storm does. After the storm, everything goes back to the way it was before with
only lingering happiness left as evidenced by the laughter in the protagonist’s house that was ‘
