Partnership between IT and the business at Hefty Hardware
In the operation of any business, it’s the norm to have the IT department work together with
other business departments. This is for the reason that all the departments are under the company
and should work towards a common goal. However, this is not the situation at Hefty Hardware
since there are many shortcomings when it comes to the relationship between IT and the
business. To start with, the business and the IT department have the shortcomings in that they do
not seem to operate for a common goal. The two departments seem like they are totally in a
different organization. Why this is so may be attributed to the poor communication between the
two departments. There is this one time when the IT head is heard saying that the IT department
is given very little attention yet when something in the business fails it’s attributed to IT. This is
an implication that there is poor communication between the two departments (Martinez, t al.
2017). They are like in a competition on who should be responsible for what.
Cheryl the VP of the retail marketing at some point complains about how the IT department has
failed in the company. She complains that the IT department has always been complaining about
infrastructure and poor bandwidth which should be cases handled internally within their
department. This shows that the VP retail marketing believes that the IT department should
handle their things their own way but ensure that they contribute to what other departments want.
