Every summer, as the anniversaries of the U.S. atomic bombing on Nagasaki and
Hiroshima advance day in day out, people in the universe, in America and particularly people in
japan are left wondering the president should have the used the nuclear weapons (or “special
bombs” as they were called then ) against Japan in August 1945. And every year, as we try and
get farther away in time from those terrifying events, the memories keep on regurgitating and
wonder if Truman’s decision was right or wrong.

There many arguments for and against the decision by President Truman to use atomic
bomb on japan but I am going to explore just a few.
The most important argument to support the president’s decision was that it saved the
lives of many Americans which could have been lost in only 2 days. The first which was against
the island in the south, was called Operation Torch. The second one was to be against Honshu
Island in the 1946 spring. A combination of the two was named Operation Downfall. Land
invasions though would have led to a massacre death. At first, Field Marshall Hisaichi gave an
order that all of the one hundred thousand prisoners should be executed if the people of America
