The woman suffrage movement holds a specific relevance because it allows the modern
woman to vote. The suffrage movement that was grounded in sacrifice and motivated by idealism
was a courageous political campaign that persisted for more than seventy-two years, comprised of
both women and men that led into enfranchising of more than half of the United States citizens
(Jeydel, 2011). The movement was significant because less than hundred years ago; women were
not allowed to participate in voting, thus denying them the many privileges incorporated in
citizenship rights. The movement, spearhead by pioneer women such as Susan B. Antony (18201906) and Inez Milholland (1886-1916) ensured that women gained a political voice fighting for
