Abstract
Over the past decade, the roles of the physician have changed significantly. The current
healthcare system has seen an introduction of new physical roles for the various physicians at the
hospital setup. There have been ways in which the physician's roles have been minimized as well
ways in which they have been expanded at all levels including the private practice, large group
practice, hospital physician as well as the specialist roles. The physician is taking up managerial
roles as well as acquiring informatics expertise in order to utilize today's technological
advancement to better their patient care services. Aside from the expansion of some the
physicians' roles, it has been argued that today's healthcare system has seen the physicians'
ability to control their jobs as having being decreased significantly.
