Strategic Role of the HR
The Human Resource department is a critical element of any organization. A wellstructured resource management is essential as it helps the firm to recognize the areas which it
can work to improve, and other new features that should be added to enhance the growth of the
institution. It is the role of the managers to set in a place a functioning, and a strong department
that can help to incorporate the ideas of both the customers, and the institution. One of the
primary roles of the human resource department is to enhance the safety conditions of the
workplace. Therefore, this essay seeks to assess the functions which the department partakes to
maintain workplace safety.
The term human resource is composed of two words, human, and resource. Human refers
to the manpower behind an organization’s activities, or the staff. Resources are anything that can
be utilized in a situation. Therefore, human resource refers to the approach that sees human
beings as an invaluable resource in an organization (Cooke, 2000). Other terms that are
associated with the concept are; recruiting, retention, and welfare. Recruiting is a function of the
human resource department that incorporates new employees within the organizational culture
(McGuire, 2014). Retention refers to the willingness of an employee to remain in an
organization, and finally, employee welfare is the well-being of the employee at work in terms of
job satisfaction, and conducive environment (Ogunyemi, 2014).
