The Telecommunication Act of 1996 was the first major law to be made regarding the
regulation of the telecommunication industry after the enactment of the FCC in the 1930s. The
act cut across the entire telecommunication industry and it had very significant changes that took
effect almost immediately after the enactment. The Act aimed to remove the unnecessary barriers
that prevented fair competition in the telecommunication industry. The law also aimed at
offering consumers of the industry satisfactory and fairly priced services. Therefore, the musicradio sector was very much affected by the Act. The most significant change that affected the
