People move from one country to another with different reasons. The United States is the
leading state which attracts the largest number of immigrants in the world, who join the U.S society
through citizenship, becoming legal permanent residents or by seeking humanitarian protection.
People are granted legal permanent residence by getting a green card which permits them to live
and work in the country indefinitely. Parents move with their children to the United States while
they are still schooling and they have to be absorbed to the U.S schools to continue with their
studies (Shields, 2004). All children in the United States are entitled to equal access to education
regardless of their parents’ origin or immigration status. Physically challenged children are also
absorbed to the education systems of the United States. Immigrant students may have various
disabilities like autism, visual and hearing impairments.
Physically challenged students have challenges in their new environment and need
assistance from different people for them to fit well to the new system. Teachers should have great
experience in special education so that they can be able to understand the disabled children in the
United States. These children should be educated to the maximum together with their other nondisabled peers. Special educators provide the best foundation to the disabled immigrants and skills
which can help them in their studies. Students with disability have diverse characteristics which
have varied skills, likes, dislikes, talents and interests (Boyle, 2008). Teachers should give the
instructions that meets the needs of everyone.
Resources
There are various programs which provide services to the immigrant students and make
them have the required educational services without a lot of difficulties which include the

Migrant Education Programs (MEP). MEP provides educational and supportive services to
the children of migratory farmers or fishers. Children who have these qualities are entitled to
educational services provided by this program. This program ensures that all the immigrant
students reach the challenging academic standards which prepares them for responsible citizenship
and productive employment. Its goal is to ensure that the migrant students get the right quality of
education like any other student in the United States. The students with disabilities are helped by
this program to have access to quality education like the normal students (Boyle, 2008).
