Summary of life and importance of King David
King David is one of the most significant figures in Judaism. Born in the tribe of Judah,
he lived between 907BCE to 837 BCE and was King of Israel for 40 years. A lot is known about
him, but most of the historical and Biblical narrative focus on his warrior aspect and his
chivalrous relationship with God. David's persona depicts spiritualism and important
accomplishments in Jewish history such as; killing Goliath, reclaiming Jerusalem, The Psalms,
and war victory.
David was anointed King by Prophet Samuel as a young boy without King Saul’s
acknowledgment. He was the youngest son in Jesse’s family. The act was a threat to Saul's
lordship which made him jealous to the point of attempting to kill David on several occasions.
Moreover, David's first display of courage was when he went to war, inexperienced, with a
catapult and stone. Unlike the ordinary armed soldiers, he was vested by the Lord. He invoked
