The Watergate scandal was a political outrage that happened in the US around 1970. It
was done by 1 American and 4 Cubans when they forced their way into the Democratic National
Committee’s main offices in Watergate office complex located in Washington, D.C. President
Nixon’s administration was also involved in this conspiracy, and they tried to cover up. The five
criminals were caught, and the U.S. Congress investigated the incident meanwhile President
Nixon’s administration refused to be investigated thus leading to a constitutional crisis (Kutler,
1992).
This scandal resulted in the unearthing of various misuses of power by people in the
Nixon administration. The activities involved the listening in of conversations of people who
were considered political opponents or those who were assumed to be suspicious. President
Nixon and those who were close to him sanctioned the investigations of politicians and activists
using the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Many of those arrested were found to be members of
