Introduction and Organization:
Begin your essay with a short but effective introduction that includes a strong thesis sentence. A thesis is always a declarative statement, often with multiple arms (aspects) that must be proved. After your thesis has been clearly stated in your paper you are ready to add your supporting information in paragraph form. It is often effective to create an outline before you begin your essay. In this way you will easily be able to see if you are proving your argument (thesis) with sufficient support. In addition, you will be providing a roadmap of your essay that helps you to stay organized.

Use technical terminology (vocabulary) when this is appropriate. Provide definitions for key terms you use.
Do not refer to the assignment within the paper. For example, do not announce “this paper seeks to. . .” or “this essay will show that . . . .” In an effective essay, the purpose should be implicit in the excellent thesis you provide.
Avoid vague word choice. Be as specific as possible in your choice of language.
