CS281 INTRODUCTION TO SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Project development Template

TOTAL GRADE: 20% (15% on report and 5% on oral presentation), Note that Late submission will receive 10% penalty per day.

Instructions:

The headings and questions below have been developed to construct case studies for project development training.

To construct a new case study please read the questions within each of the following headings and provide answers for those relevant to your chosen project(s). (See your subject in the previous table)

Using these headings will enable analysis and design of the project chosen.

Finally, these answers can now be used to construct a project development report.

Headings:

1- Title

Please create a descriptive title such as:

  • Moving a restaurant into new premises
  • Planning an author visit to a university library
  • Restructuring the Library Portal to synthesise with the University Portal
  • Others……please note these are examples you should consider your chosen subject of your project….

    2- Background / context of the project (Stage 1) (problem knowing and requirements collection)

    Create a software requirement and specification.

    What was the organizational and service context for the project?

    What ideas or reasons influenced developing the project?

    Define functional and non-functional requirements?

    3- Project definition and goal (Stage 2) (Planning)

    This may have been answered in the chosen title but please restate the goal here.

    What were the benefits expected from the project goal?

    3.1- Finance available

    Was there a designated budget for the project?

    If yes, was it generous or limited?

    If no, did the project need to be achieved within a general budget?

    Who was responsible for the finances and how were they managed?

    3.2- Staffing

    Who were the people involved and why?

    Were people outside of the organization involved? Did it involve partners?

    Was a project team developed with specific roles?

    Was there a project manager / leader and if so, why were they chosen?

    3.3- Time scales

    Was there a specific date when it had to be completed or delivered?

    What was the total time from the date of the original idea to delivery?

    3.4- Communication

    How did the project team communicate with each other? (For example: Social Media)

    4- Key tasks (Stages 3 & stage 4) (The project analysis & design)

    What type of process model you will follow and why?

    Draw use case diagram of your project?

    Draw sequence diagram of your project?

    Draw class and state diagrams of your project?

    What type of architectural Design you will apply? Draw it?

    5- Evaluation (Stage 5)

    Was feedback used to make any further changes during or after project completion?

    General instruction:

    1- Submit report as hardcopy in class.

    2- Use Times New Roman or Cambria 12pt.

    3- Use 14pt for titles.

    4- Insert page number.

    5- Use double-spaced.

    6- Prepare presentation of 10 minutes
