Introduction
Between The World and Me is book written in the year 2015 by Ta-Nehisi Coates as a
letter to his son on the representation, realities, and outlooks which were connected to the black
community in the U.S. He summarizes the history of America and elaborates to his son the
violence associated with racism which has been merged in the culture of Americans. The writer
used a shortened autobiography of his encounters when he was young in Baltimore. All the
institutions of the United States such as the police, schools, and also the streets threatened and
endangered the black community (Coates, 2015). He has the perception that the white supremacy
is an everlasting force which will never be terminated and will continue to oppress the black
people. Therefore, we shall focus on the perspectives of other writers on the assertions of Coates
and establish whether Coates is entirely right in his claims.
Jason D. Hill’s Perspective
Jason claims that the book is similar to an American horror story as well as a declaration
of war against the United States. This is due to the way Coates perceives his experience of living
in the U.S as a black individual. He claims that he struggled as a black boy to survive in
Baltimore enroll at Harvard University and visiting Chicago’s southern side. Coates also
associates the situation of African Americans with African history to establish the meaning of
civil war. Jason thinks that most of the readers of this book will gain an awareness of the
frequent exilic and lonely world in which Coates has encountered as a black individual in the
U.S.
