PRISON MYTHS
The myth crime has fallen because of increased incarceration s the modern day theoretic
practical. To begin with, crime is an unlawful act that is punishable by law whereas incarceration
is among the consequences that come on committing a crime. Incarceration is the act of
imprisonment or being in custody. In the modern world, the most common form of punishment
by any state or government is incarceration which is meant to try and change the ideals of the
criminal questions and sometimes to be able to re-introduce them to a given society as a changed
person. The myth came about by the rising incarceration rates in the United States due to policy
changes which increased the prison population. It is very likely to believe that by locking up all
criminals the state can be declared crime free thence the myth that crime has fallen because of
increased incarceration (Barkan, & Bryjak, 2013).
Crime with the association to high rates of incarceration are like two parallel, In Canada,
violent crime dropped as much as it did in the United States yet the population in prison at that
time had dropped. Another example is that of South Carolina whereby the level of crimes
dropped by around 18 percent after doing away with minimum sentences, redefining crimes from
