Although competition and conflict are some of the dissociative social practices in our
community, there are still differences in their types, nature, and functions. Some of the
differences that distinguish the two social processes include the following;
Competition can never end. It is a continuous process that has no end while conflict can
be brought to an end by conflict resolutions methods. In competition, the competing parties do
not have a personal contact as opposed to a conflict which is personal since the conflicting
parties are usually in personal contact. The parties in conflict know each other well and each
party tries to defeat the opponent. The competition involves a process of peace and non-violence
but the conflict is usually a very violent process. Both parties gain profits from competition
whereas there usually heavy losses to both parties in conflicts. While competition encourages
hard-work and productivity conflict discourages efforts and productivity (Ury, 2010).
