Introduction
Napoleon once argued that China is a sleeping giant, “Let her sleep, for when she wakes
she will shake the world.” These sentiments are now relevant due to the economic developments
and growth of China’s economy. This growth is attributed to increased foreign Chinese-based
factories across all the areas of the world. Despite the stagnation of the growth in world debt
crisis, China remains to be the manufacturer of low-cost products, the creditor to US and EU,
and increased military influence (Mantzopoulos, 2013). China is still regarded as the sleeping
giant due to some factors in the economy. For example, the inefficiencies in their manufacturing
industries that do not have a clear vision and do not put into consideration the needs of customers
make its products less competitive compared to other products in different countries such as
Apple. Moreover, the education system of China is another limiting issue that prevents China
from awakening from sleep. It does not encourage creativity to build future employees instead it
emphasizes on test-taking and memorization (Zhang, Guo & Zheng, 2012). Therefore, the study
aims to discuss the topic on China Sleeping giant: the largest economy in the world.

ranked the second regarding development after the USA. The country is one of the leading
producers of rice, tobacco, and peanuts among others. All these events have led to the
improvement of the standards of living among the Chinese both in the rural and urban areas
(Saran & Guo, 2005). The economic development of China has led to the alleviation of millions
