1. INTRODUCTION
The emission of CO2 by man’s use of industries and fossil fuels should be reduced in
order to avert disasters caused by global warming. Global warming refers to the increase
in temperature of both the earth’s surface and its atmosphere. This is mainly due to the
accumulation of greenhouse gases produced by industries and burning fossil fuels.
Lately, there has been an increased rate of industrialism through urbanization which has a
direct effect on the ozone layer. Measures need to be taken to curb global warming
because eventually, we shall be the ones to the face consequences.

2. GREEN HOUSE EFFECT/GREEN HOUSE GASES
Greenhouse gases affect the ozone layer and are produced both naturally and by human
activities. The greenhouse gases include: CO2, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Fluorinated
gases.

3. CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING

Increased release of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere: CO2, Methane, Nitrous
Oxide and CFS

Deforestation

4. EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING

Desertification

Stronger hurricanes and cyclones

Increase in temperature

3
Outline for Global Warming Paper

Rise of sea-level

Increased melting of glaciers

Skin cancer, malaria, elephantiasis and respiratory diseases

5. HOW TO CONTROL GLOBAL WARMING

Afforestation and reforestation

Increase the use of renewable energy sources

Use vehicles efficiently

Creating awareness on the global warming issue.

6. CONCLUSION
Global warming has become a major issue over the years. As a result, there is need for
international cooperation in order to curb this problem.

Determining the Relationship Between Global Warming and Increased Emission of Green House
Gases
The emission of CO2 by man’s use of industries and fossil fuels should be reduced in
order to avert disasters caused by global warming. There has been a rise in global average
temperatures by 0.75 0 C in the past 100 years. (Allison 2009) Global warming refers to the
increase in temperature of both the earth’s surface and its atmosphere. This is mainly due to the
accumulation of greenhouse gases produced by industries and burning fossil fuels. Lately, there
has been an increased rate of industrialism through urbanization which has a direct effect on the
ozone layer. Measures need to be taken to curb global warming because eventually, we shall be
the ones to the face consequences.
The temperatures of the earth are maintained at safe levels by the natural greenhouse
effect enabling existence of human beings and other living things. (Hansen et.al 2010)
Industrialization has affected the balance in the natural greenhouse effect hence causing global
warming. Greenhouse gases affect the ozone layer and are produced both naturally and by
human activities. The greenhouse gases include: CO2, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Fluorinated
gases. The production of greenhouse gases by human beings through various activities occurs at
a faster rate than any natural process can control them.
Global warming is caused by a combination of various factors. Burning of fossil fuels
leads to increased emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by man. The increased
emission of CO2 results from use of fossil fuels by man to: power vehicles and machinery, keep
warm and produce electricity. Industries are also a major source of CO2 emission. The emission

of Methane also results from fossil fuel production and utilization, livestock and rice farming and
landfills. (National Research Council 2008) Nitrous oxide emissions occur from the use of
synthetic fertilizers for crop production, burning of fossil fuels and handling of livestock manure.
Fluorinated gases result from the use of refrigerators, coolers, use of aerosols (air fresheners and
perfumes) and manufacturing applications by human beings. Deforestation of late has been on
the rise due to increased demand for land for establishment of businesses, industries and houses
due to the increasing human population. This has resulted to reduced number of trees available to
remove the CO2 from the atmosphere.
Global warming has resulted in increased temperatures globally. Areas that were dry
before are becoming even drier as a result and may end up becoming deserts. Rainfall patterns
are changing due to climate change. (Hansen et.al 2012) All this has also caused water shortages
in various regions around the world. Stronger hurricanes and cyclones have also been observed.
This is as a result of increased temperatures in the ocean too. A rise in the ocean’s temperature
by 1oC means...
