A Review of "Belleville” play by Amy Herzog
"Belleville" play appears to be more dramatic than just a simple play unraveling of a
young couple relationship (Green, 2013). Herzog tries to show us the hopelessness and fury that
can stem out of our daily life stresses though she tries to raise the entertainment aspect of the
experience. In the play, “Belleville” is funny and also a suspenseful play. It is mock-shocking as
well as horrifying. In the midst of anxiety, the play introduces us to Abby and Zack, a new and
young married couple full of mismatched as suggested by their names initials. The couple stays
at a terrible cross-purpose within Paris neighborhood and the play is named after this
neighborhood. The first indicator that something is not right in their apparently promising young
marriage shows up in the play's first scene. Abby (Ms. Dizzia) enters the apartment where they
stay in the cool Belleville part of the Paris and she expects to find no one at home. Zack (Mr.
