In the Communist Manifesto
Question Description
In the Communist Manifesto, Marx and Engels lay out a theory of history which they claim culminates in a proletarian revolution. Describe this theory. When Marx says that “the bourgeoisie has played a most revolutionary role” in this process, what does he mean by this apparent irony? What does Marx mean by abolishing “private property”? Finally, evaluate Marx’s claims. Do you think that socialism would provide for a healthier and more sustainable future? Do you agree with Marx that this transformation will require violence?
