Description

For this assignment, you will be developing a prototype mock-up for both kiosk display screens and smart phone display screens. You will also include a narrative to explain how you would navigate each of the prototype options. The goal is to create a mock-up that will allow the user to perform usability testing on each of the options in week 4. You may use a low-fidelity approach to prototyping these mock-ups, such as PowerPoint, Visio, or another storyboarding type tool. If you decide to draw them on paper, then you will need to take photos and imbed them in your Word document.

You will need to design the main menu for the Tourist Information Application and a lower-level menu for each item on the main menu. Be sure to apply user interface design concepts in your layout that you researched in your Discussion Board assignment. The following are items you will need to include in this design:

  • Banner heading
  • Menus and options
  • Graphics
  • Items you want to hotlink to other pages
  • Fill-inform layouts
  • Logo that can go in banner heading or as the backdrop
  • Also font and color you intend to use throughout application
  • Other options that you want to appear on every page

A sample of your deliverable might be something like the following:

Sample Kiosk Main Menu

Sample Smart Phone Main Menu

Deliverables:

The following are the overall project deliverables:

  • Update the design document title page with a new date and project name.
  • Update the previously completed sections based on your instructor's feedback.
  • Complete new content below and copy it under the section in the User Interface Usability Design document called User Interface Design Prototypes.
  • Include the following new content:
    • User Interface Design Mockups
      • Determine and utilize the method you are going to use to produce the low-fidelity mock-up of your designs.
      • Develop and copy 3 mock-up designs according to the above instructions into the master design document that you started in week 1.
      • Describe how the user navigates each of the options in each of the mock-up designs.
  • Be sure to update your table of contents before submission

The system will help the visitors to access various kind of information as well as support from the authority of the attraction site. For example, an English-speaking person visiting a tourist attraction site in another country that doesn’t speak English. He or she will use the system to access various services such as a request for a tour guide. The city that I will concentrate on is Piazza del Campo, which is the Center of History in Siena, Italy. It holds a large public space which dominating the Siena’s historic center. It presents the beautiful and unique medieval squares with a red paving of brick, clam design of shells, and a wide area. The piazza has nine divisions of pie-shaped wedges, all radiating out from the square’s lowest point that is at the face of the Town Hall, referred to as Palazzo Pubblico. It is surrounded by precious public buildings, residences, and cafes’ that are attractive to many visiting tourists and the locals in the area. Various major categories for the interface of the user will be supported. They will include firstly, graphical user interface accepting the input via a computer mouse and a keyboard. Secondly, touchscreen interface displays accepting inputs through a touch of the stylus or a finger. Thirdly, conversational interfaces enabling the user to direct the computer using plain text and voice commands rather than graphical elements. Fourthly, gesture interface accepting input in the form of mouse or hand gestures. The system is intended even to support people with disabilities. The gesture interface will take care of those with hearing impairment. Conversational support means will help people with visual impairment. Others with disabilities, for example, missing fingers can use the graphical user or the touchscreen interfaces. SOFTWARE ANALYSIS CONTROL 4 User Interface Technical Requirements There are many technical requirements for the kiosk. Input devises to support the interaction capabilities will include a computer mouse, a keyboard, a voice receptive control device, a stylus for touching purposes, and a touchscreen. For easy application by the users, a standard keyboard will be used. The voice control should be able to capture sounds appropriately to reduce the probability of error. The touchscreen should be having a display length of twentyfour inches for more comfortable use by all the visitors. The technical requirements of the application for the smartphone will be in a such a way that they will provide familiarity, clarity, aesthetics, responsiveness, concision, efficiency, and forgiveness. All these are aimed at making it easier for the user to use the applications without the need of consulting even if it is for their first time. The twenty-four inches for the screen display will be large enough to accommodate enough applications thus reducing the number of pages required house them. The system will be designed such that it will be suitable for efficient and effective completion of the intended work. There will be an enhancement of the controllability qualities for easy employment of different pace and direction during use. Tolerance of error for the input devices will be enhanced to achieve the intended purpose using minimal actions. Selfdescriptiveness will also be improved to make sure that all needed steps are comprehensible by the feedback from the system. The system will guide and support the user for learning purposes. Consistency and correspondents of the characteristics of users will help with the conformity of user expectations. By the use of the capabilities of interactions above, potential disability cases will be catered for by the system. Visual, hearing or any physically impaired visitor will be able to use SOFTWARE ANALYSIS CONTROL 5 the applications at his or her convenience. This means inclusivity of all people is adhered to and thus encouraging its use. It will, therefore, support satisfaction, efficiency, and effectiveness for the good of the user. User Interface Human Interaction The users will communicate with the user interface of kiosk through various means. They will include the environment of the machine, for example, the room housing the computer. Secondly, there is task environment which represents the goals and conditions that are set for the user. Thirdly, there are areas of the interface. Non-pertaining interaction of the computer and human are contained in processes in non-overlapping areas. On the other hand, processes about interactions of human and computer will be contained in overlapping areas. Fourthly, the input flow enables easy movement of information from task environment. Finally, the output that enables generation of information from the machine environment towards the screen to be interpreted by the user. The users will interact with the user interface of the smartphone though, firstly visual means. This fact is the most widespread area of human-computer interaction. Secondly, Audio means will also enable transfer of information from the user to the system. Thirdly, sign sensitivity means to enable the people with hearing impairment to access the services just like the others. Finally, the smartphone will have a system enabling transfer of the feedback to the screen for the user to interpret. SOFTWARE ANALYSIS CONTROL 6 References Giulio, B. D. (2017, September 25).
