Margins – the default in Word 2003 is 1.25” for the left and right side and 1.0” for top and bottom. Go to your page layout and change the left and right margins to 1.0”. For newer versions of Word, the default may be 1” all the way around but you should check to see what yours shows.

Widow/Orphan Controls:

The widow and orphan control options in MS Word helps ensure that the first or last line of a paragraph is not left on a page alone.

A widow line refers to the first line of a paragraph that is on a page by itself. An orphan line refers to the last line of a paragraph that is on a page by itself. Word 2007 and 2010 automatically uses this setting for new documents.

In Word 2010, Widow and Orphan controls can be found in the Page Layout tab – then choose the little arrow next to Paragraph. This will open up a pop up box – choose the Line and Page Breaks tab and in that window uncheck the box next to Widow/Orphan control. This will keep your margins correct as the paper prints out.

for Word 2003:

1 Select the paragraphs in which you want to control widows and orphans.

2 On the Format menu, click Paragraph, and then click the Line and Page Breaks tab.

3 Select the Widow/Orphan control check box and make sure no check mark is in this box.

Apple, a Monopoly? It Could Happen.
This article looks at the possible implications which will be as a result of Apple winning
their case against Samsung, which is seen as a smokescreen as Google is believed to be their
main target. Apple won the case with the verdict on their favor, and a huge probable
consequence is the likelihood of Apple turning into a monopoly (Kay). This can be easily
achieved through Apple managing to deal with Google based on its failure to having its
customer’s indemnified, and also its failure to ensure that it has properly licensed the intellectual
property which it utilizes in its software that is provided to customers, and collects no royalties.
Google’s business method acts in a certain way by which it gives its customers valuable
things for free, and doesn’t charge for royalties but instead earns its revenue through advertisers.
This thus means it will attract a lot of customers, and it will be way cheaper for them. This offers
a lot of competition to companies like Apple, and Microsoft which sell their hardware, and
software respectively. This method threatens a lot of all the other businesses. Microsoft collects
in royalties nearly half a billion annually from Google’s customers due to Android license fees
(Kay).
Apple does not want money but wants to completely remove Google from the picture in
the high-mobility-platform-business. If this goes as planned, it will make Apple a monopoly
(Kay). This is because a monopoly set up makes the seller the controller of the market as well as
the price maker. A situation in which Apple becomes a monopoly would make them realize very
huge profits while at the same time would harm the normal citizens. Apple has been in a group

with other companies that prevented Google from getting Nortel patents in an aim to ensure that
they do not have big portfolios of intellectual property.
The fact that Apple made unreasonable offers to Google during the trial in order to be able to
absorb all their profits was unrealistic, and only served to enhance the notion Apple are out to get
Google. Apple aims at driving out all viable competitors which will however draw attention of
public authorities globally, and thus seems to go easy on Microsoft due to an existing
gentleman’s agreement, and to be able to avoid scrutiny from public authorities.
This was believed to be Steve Job’s work as he believed Eric Schmidt, who had been a
member of the board at Apple, had sold his ideas but recent actions prove that he was not alone
in this passionate hate. There is no evidence that Apple are backing down dispelling this idea.
Apple having monopoly would be a very bad thing for this competitive market, and thus experts
believe that the proper settlement of this case would have been for Apple to license their patents
to Samsung for a fee that is reasonable. The argument from Google would however be that the
patents owned by Apple are too broad which should be a basis for their invalidation as it would
not be realistic such as black, and roundness.
The article ties well with what has been learned in class because it provides a practical
approach to the class content. It helps to put in perspective everyone of the theoretical aspects
that were taught in a class setting. Additionally, it makes sense because of the mature of its
discussion. It analyses the competition that has been introduced in the software, gadget, and
advertising markets by Google. Therefore, it, makes economic sense, and bolsters everything that
was learned in class. It examines the various concepts of microeconomics, and explores some of
the terms that are typical to such a market, and its demand, and supply forces. These terms are
discussed in the subsequent section.
