How do People that Work for a Company Apply Ethical Reasoning to Concede to their
Various Ethical and Unethical Actions and Professional Decisions
Ethical reasoning can be defined as the process of thinking of issues as right or wrong
(Carucci et al., 2017). Acting unethically can have devastating effects on a company. Some of
the large corporations have gone down because a few elements in the company engaged in
unethical acts. Examples of the large firms that fell because of unethical practices by their
leaders include Dennis Kozlowski at Tyco, Conrad Black at Hollinger International, Bernard
Ebbers at Worldcom, and Kenneth Lay at Enron. The companies listed failed because the
CEOs applied unethical management practices. However, there were some members of the
firm that were opposed to acts. For instance, Kenneth Lay engaged in conspiracy and fraud
against Enron (Carucci et al., 2017). The difference between him and the others who behaved
well was in the application of their ethical reasoning.
