The Patriot Act
After the 2001 September 11th terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC, the
Congress passed the USA Patriot Act, the government acted faster that the nation saw the Act as
violation of their civil rights and liberties. The Act granted new and special powers to the law
enforcing agencies to “hopefully” prevent future attacks from terrorists. With the new powers,
the law enforcement agencies may encroach upon the citizen’s right of privacy of the United
States Citizens and of the United States foreign visitors without a justifiable cause or public
knowledge. Since its creation, the Act has been controversial on its own in its own right.
