ABOUT ME Clearly, I was brought up in a way I believe has shaped me into who I am today. The good and bad memories that I have been through for over two decades I have been in this world, have played a significant role in changing my perspective of life. Personally, I have had diverse experiences that have configured my life. In this article I will try to share some of these experiences and challenges I had to go through to be who I am today. I believe that being brought up by both parents contributes a lot to how a child is morally molded. A father inspires his son to live and be like him. While the mother offers motherly love to the child. There’s obviously no greater feeling than to feel loved and treasured by your family. I count myself lucky having been brought up by both my parents. According to me my siblings have also contribute vastly in my upbringing. Take for example, having a big brother to look after me when I was bullied at school. A small sister to play with when I was left home alone made my childhood days happier rather than being left alone to watch T.V or play with my toys. I believe that being brought up by both my parents and siblings from both sexes has helped me learn how to live with people and socially interact at school and in life generally. Everyone has aspirations of who to become when one is grown up. My Dad was a passionate scientist. He used to tell me about the nine planets and how vast our galaxy is. He could bring me magazines and novels about science and wonders of the universe. This made me grow up aspiring to be a scientist as my Dad. Either as an engineer or a doctor, I was ready to conquer the world with my passion for physics. I remember one day when I was 5, I cried a whole day when my Dad rejected my proposal to take us as a family to a trip to the moon. I know it sounds incredible, right? I mean, I was so determined to go to the moon, which I saw every day at night shining bright among the stars. Later on after joining junior school, I became fascinated by bridges, buildings and skyscrapers. And I knew at once who I was destined to be when I grew up. But as much as my Dad was a scientist, he still believed that God created everything that there is. We would always go to church on Sundays and attend Bible study sessions and pray groups as a family. No single meal would be taken at home without saying the grace. This helped me grow up morally and spiritually believing in God. Although nowadays it’s a challenge to stay spiritual and live morally upright, in a world with so much immorality and bad influence from peers. When I was in High school, I had to control myself from peer pressure that was so influencing me to start using drugs. I remember I had a crush on a girl who happened to smoke weed at the school Football ground with her friends. I once thought, may be if I start smoking too, she would start liking me. How stupid was I, right? Since I was a kid I have always liked playing mind games- chess was my favorite. The first time I checkmated my dad, I was 12. I remember I was so happy that mum bought me a bike to celebrate such an achievement. In school, I won several awards relating to Chess and solving puzzles. I have always been sharp, and a natural problem solver. Everyone has dreams, mine are so big that they scare me. But before I get there, I have to work so hard in school, finish my degree and get a good job. Five years from now, I want to be a renowned Structural engineer and a scientist who will contribute to changing people’s lives and designing structures that change the game. With faith, patience and perseverance, I believe that all my dreams will come to pass.

Leadership is something that is barely new to me. For as long as I can remember I have had to
take charge on several occasions to save myself or those that I cherish. Being the firstborn male
child in a broken home was always going to be a challenge, even worse was being raised in the
ghetto community of Philadelphia. My parents split when I was ten years old, which was the
climax of a bitter divorce case that left me and my two siblings in the care of our grandmother
(on my father’s side). Both my parents were already hooked on crack and were in no position to
take care of us, and that is why the judge gave the ruling that we had to stay with our
grandmother....
