Authors use different visual images in a manner that draws readers and the attention of
the audience, allowing the play to unfold and persuade the audience the way they want it to. The
use of visual images is demonstrated in the short set play ‘Great Expectations ‘and ‘Twelfth
Night’ by Shakespeare and short film ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ by Shakespeare. In these short
stories and the short play, Shakespeare uses distinctively visual elements to create impacts on the
audience as he conveys specific view point on oppression, beauty and love.
In the short film ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ Shakespeare commences the unfolding of
the play by helping readers visualize the consequences of oppression and the struggle of being an
outsider. Shakespeare uses medium long shot during the early stages of the play, makes the
audience have a vivid image about the protagonist, he tries to illustrate that the protagonist was
made to feel lonely in the play. The author’s use of juxtaposition of shots between slaves and the
protagonist further helps visually illustrate the emphasis in the isolation of the audience great
mind. Shakespeare tends to blur the importance of the background and channels his focuses on
the foreground. He uses the protagonist to help the audience imagine how women are oppressed
by men in the society. The image where Bianca is bet by many men to determine who marries
