Description

Web Site Progress

Discuss your Web site progress with classmates. What areas of the design have given you the most problems? Review your work in several different browsers. Be sure to check Firefox and Internet Explorer, at the very least. Are there any problems in either of the browsers? Read the problems others are having and help troubleshoot their submissions in your substantive replies to their posts.

Find an example of a newspaper Web site other than the one you are redesigning. Take a screenshot of the front page, one of the section pages, and one of the story pages. Attach these screenshots to your post (if you cannot attach all three, combine them into a single graphic using Photoshop to help you attach it to your post). Compare these three page designs based on the grids they use. How many columns does each page have? What design differences are there among the three different pages?

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

  • Test your own Web site in Internet Explorer and Firefox.
    • In addition, you may also test your Web site in Safari, Opera, or Google Chrome.
  • What problems, if any, did you find while testing your Web site in the different browsers?
  • Why might a Web site appear differently in one browser than in another?
  • Generally speaking, how can these cross-browser compatibility issues be avoided?
  • Select a different newspaper Web site than the one you are using for this project.
  • Take three different screen shots:
    • One of the front page
    • One of a section page
    • One of a story page
  • How many columns does each page contain?
  • What design differences are there among the three different pages?
