According to Jenkins et al. (2017), it is important for teachers to assess their pupils in
order to be able to tell their progress and find out any areas in which they might be having
weaknesses and in what areas they are strong. Traditionally, literacy is defined as the ability
to read, write and count but now in a world that is increasingly becoming digital, literacy is
now a form of identification, understanding, interpretation, creation, and communication
(Griffin et al. 2014). It is now more important than ever for an individual to possess literacy
skills if they are to keep up with a world that is full of all kinds of information and changing
very fast since it helps one to make sense of the world around them.
