The Massachusetts Health reform was passed in 2006. The purpose of billing the health
reform was to increase the provision of health coverage for the residents of Massachusetts. Every
young or old individual was required by law to obtain a certain health insurance over. This was
specifically aimed at providing quality, accountable and affordable healthcare. The central
method of doing so was by the expansion of health care and health insurance. The law also
required employers to provide medical cover to their employees. To amicably solve the problem
of uninsured individuals, the law required the insurance costs to be reduced so as to cover the
biggest number possible. Due to the changes in the economy and health sector, Massachusetts
health reform brought about both positive and negative effects.
There are few facts that provide clear evidence of positive impacts of the health reform.
One of the positive impacts is the gradual drop of uninsured residents in Massachusetts. After the
health reform was billed in 2006, the number of insured individuals dropped from the previous
6% to roughly 2%. This was due to the expansion of the healthcare insurance sector (Gruber,
2011). The main fact that triggered the drop was the easy access to health insurance service and
also the affordability. The number of those covered by health assurance was two-thirds of the
entire population of Massachusetts. The reform created an environment where residents focused
more on health matters as this was previously a major bother to most of them. The main aim of
passing the reform was to ensure that the elderly, youth, and children received health insurance
cover with less struggle. The reform well covered for the less fortunate, the black and Hispanic
