Description

There is a small custom published book. Can also by through McGraw Hill or virtual books or on reserve in the library (see syllabus for isbn). It costs about $6. Unfortunately the publisher could not publish the articles I requested so I chose grief as this is part of the life cyle and part of aging. Read all the articles-very few- and write a brief synopsis of one. Add your comments, in a short paragraph. For example: do you agree with what the author proposes and why?

is this reading helpful in working with the elderly and why

did you gain any new insights etc.

“All Joy and No Fun” by Jenifer Senior
SUMMARY
Jenifer Senior, in her article” All Joy and No Fun” argues that parents today race children
for the children’s sake rather than the sake f the family or the society as a whole. This is because
they are confused about how to bring them up. In fact, they concentrate on giving them
education, food, health care and other similar things. According to Senior, this is the wrong way
to bring children up. According to Senior, child rearing is stressful and hard than anticipated by
nonparents. This makes non parents happier than parents. Parenting has changed over time.
Earlier it involved taking care of the children and carrying out all other household duties. Today,
stay-home-moms concentrate on motherhood rather than running the house.
Children change the way parents live their lives and make their parents concentrate on
them instead of other important things. Mothers question themselves for not spending enough
time with their children because of their jobs. It turns out that fathers are spending more time
with their kids than they did earlier.
