- Construct an argument supporting your proposed solution(s). Be sure to consider multiple disciplines or populations so that your solution shows that multiple parts of society will benefit from this solution. Provide evidence from multiple scholarly sources as evidence that your proposed solution is viable.
- Interpret statistical data from at least three, peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Do this by discussing the validity, reliability, and any biases; identifying the strengths and weaknesses of these sources; and pointing out limitations of current research and attempting to indicate areas for future research. You may even use visual representations such as graphs or charts to explain statistics from sources. Evaluate the ethical outcomes that result from your solution. Be sure to provide at least one positive ethical outcome as well as at least one negative ethical outcome that could result from your solution, and explain at least two ethical issues related to each of those outcomes. It’s important to consider all of society.
- Develop a conclusion as the last paragraph(s) of the essay, starting with rephrasing your thesis statement and then presenting the major points of the topic and how they support your argument. Minimum Wage
Introduction
Minimum wage is a global issue that is supposed to be addressed by countries, business
organizations and corporate societies among others. Minimum wages enables organizations to
gain or lose a unique competitive advantage. According to ,Alison, 2017, minimum wage is the
least amount of money an organizational employee is supposed to be paid for services rendered
on behalf of the company, determined on hourly basis (Apurva, 2017). For the case of the
United States of America, minimum wage is determined by the state in which the individual is an
employee. The federal law is used as guideline for making minimum wage policies by relevant
states. Other factors such as level of education, the nature of the job and prevailing economic
conditions do contribute to the process of effecting minimum wage policy (Apurva, 2017).
The enactment of Fair-Labor Standards Act was a historic milestone of introducing
minimum wage policy in America. This act was enshrined into law in 1938. According FairLabor Standards Act, current minimum stands at $7.25 per hour for all Americans in different
market segments. Some states such as California have minimum wage that is slightly above
recommended federal value ($10.50). Other countries of the world have their own system of
designing and implementing minimum wage policy, by considering various economic, political
and social factors. Therefore, minimum wage policy is a worldwide issue that can improve or
distort the economy of a given country. This essay is an examination of minimum wage as global
issue.
History of Minimum Wage
MINIMUM WAGE

Indeed minimum wage is not a problem in the United States alone but all countries of the
world have considered minimum wage as a hot topic. The first minimum wage was introduced
by New Zealand in 1894 (Apurva, 2017). The law was tailored towards covering businesses and
all industries across the country. Australia (Victoria) was the second country on the globe to
introduce minimum wage policy. This law covered most notorious six industries well known for
paying low wages to workers. By 1904, more than one hundred and fifty countries of the world
had passed minimum wage policies and integrated them in their economic activities. Western
Australia and Wales had enacted their own minimum wage policies two years earlier in 1902
(Apurva, 2017). Australia was an eye opener for other countries to enact and implement
minimum wage policies across their industries, production plants, factories and other economic
sectors. For example, United Kingdom passed its own minimum wage policy by the year 1909.
Reasons for Introduction of Minimum Wages
Despite the fact that minimum wages lead to loss of jobs and compromising economy
within a particular country, there are numerous reasons that fuelled the introduction of minimum
wage laws in America and the world at large (Starr, 1993). Firms have the responsibility of
ensuring that their workers earn enough to cater for basic needs and make life smooth. Therefore
worker’s welfare is one of the major reasons that fuelled the introduction of minimum wages
across the globe. Minimum wage laws were designed with the intention of protecting tax payers
against firms exploiting them. Some countries do not allow workers to engage in collecting
bargaining agreement thus ending up infringing on their labor rights (Starr, 1993). Enactment of
labor laws protect workers from being exploited by rogue employers who are after making huge
profits at their expense. Some governments fail to enact and execute minimum wage labor laws
so that they can manipulate employee salaries and other remuneration benefits for their own

material gains. Minimum wage laws provide immunity to workers from being exploited by some
bogus and insensitive governments from interfering with labor rights and privileges as enshrined
in the supreme law of the land.
Crusaders of minimum wage laws are convinced that people’s living standards, reduction
of inequality, boosting individual work morale and poverty reduction are attained by introduction
of minimum wage laws in a given country (Starr, 1993). Most countries of the world enacted
minimum wage laws with the intention of providing a conducive work environment for workers.
This was seen as a motive of limiting international competition for jobs that were seen to be
scarce.
Minimum wages are seen as means of retaining hybrid of workforce within an
organization. For example, countries with few experts such as doctors, engineers and pilots
introduced minimum wage policies so as to prevent such experts from fleeing to other countries
of the world in search for better pay (Starr, 1993). There have been cases of doctors and other
specialists shifting their citizenship from Africa to America in search for a better pay.
Governments realized loosing manpower hence promoted legislation of minimum wage bills to
retain the workforce.
Minimum wage laws were made on the basis of creating positive impact to small
business owners and the industry at large (Starr, 1993. Minimum wages are supported by a
section of people to be a tool for removing financial stress and encourage people to further their
academic careers in order to get better jobs. Minimum wages have been known to increase
standard of living of the less vulnerable in society. Some believe that minimum wages create
more incentives for people to take jobs when compared to other methods of transferring
