Question description

1. Visit a local museum or art gallery. Choose one work or art and take a picture of the work. Analyze it based on the elements of design (chapter 4) and principles of design (chapter 5)

2. Visit a local museum or art gallery. Choose one exhibition (usually this is more than one work but entire room or even a few rooms in the museum) and describe it in detail:

· What type of art is shown? Western, Non Western? Ancient? By one artist? etc.
· How is the exhibition displayed? How are the works arranged? (Describe the effectiveness of framing, lighting, sequencing, gallery space, etc.)
· Ask yourself what the curators were trying to accomplish by arranging the works in the fashion that they did. What is the premise of the exhibition? Is the exhibition successful in terms of the intentions?
· Which work/s are your favorites? Why?

3. Choose one topic from the following list and read the relevant part in the textbook:

  • Digital Design and Fabrication
  • Fabric Architecture
  • Architecture and Community
  • Sustainability: Green Architecture

2. Find one example to demonstrate that topic and provide at least one picture of the structure.

3. Discuss this example - When was it built and where? Who built it? For what purpose? Which materials and techniques were used? How is the structure being used today? How is it related to the site where it was built? Sources of influence? Do you find it successful or not? etc.
