MIN OF 6 PAGES

Unlike the quizzes and exams, this paper gives you a chance to express your own ideas and arguments, engaging the philosophers we have been studying by setting down some appreciations and some disagreements. The paper must show understanding of several philosophical positions and arguments; that is, it must be the sort of thing you could have dashed off in an evening before you even took this course. Additionally, it is not to be merely a report of someone else’s ideas. It is to represent what you – at this time, after having studied Plato, Aristotle, Russell, Kant, Anselm, and the rest – truly think on the topic assigned. This is your chance to play the philosopher!

Here is the topic. Many of you may be looking forward to being parents some day; some of you are already parents. Those of you who are not sure you want to be parents have a stake in the way your neighbors’ and family members’ children are reared. So, by making use of what you have learned, address the topic: What philosophical ideas do I want my children (or my neighbors’, sister’s, [etc] children) to grow up to embrace and/or avoid. For example: am I persuaded that the next generation will live a more flourishing life if they are atheists or theists? Believe in Absolute Truth or Not? Rationalists, Empiricist? Libertarian, Determinist, Compatibilist? Dualist, Materialist, Idealist? Duty, Utility, Virtue, Relativism, Moral Absolutistism? Communist, Classic Liberalism, …. ? (… and so on).

You are to articulate various positions adequately, the major representatives of the positions, explain the consequences of holding to a particular philosophical perspective, and why the position should be embraced, avoided, or modified. You must deal with at least THREE of the major areas discussed in this course (Philosophy of Religion, Epistemology, Metaphysics, Ethics, and Political Philosophy)

Children are molded by their families and their parents and the material that they are
constantly exposed to while growing up. It is during the formative years before they hit
adulthood that their perception of the world and their perspective on life can be shifted and
influenced. School and peers also play a vital role in the shaping of their worldview. Individual
conclusions can also be drawn by the children when they engage their curiosity and inquisitive
nature. For instance, topics relating to philosophy are important to consider and critically think
about which is why parents and other influential persons in the children’s lives require talking
and teaching their children. The following discussion will include the various philosophies that
are important to teach to children since it affects their future and their understanding of the
world. It will include different philosophies as taught by various philosophers.
Philosophy of religion
Concerning religion, I would want my children to embrace religious diversity. Religious
diversity which is commonly referred to as religious pluralism is perceived as a form of tolerance
which enables people with a different belief system to co-exist in society. Different religion
philosophers have various views on the subject which has led to the never-ending debate which
revolves around religious exclusivity and religious pluralism. Religious pluralism is based on the
fact that all religions are interconnected in their set of morals and hope of liberation in different
ways, and therefore, no one religion can be termed as the truth and only way. Acceptance of the
concept and idea that different religions with mutually exclusive beliefs are equally valid is what
the philosophy of pluralism encompasses.

knowledge of the concept of religion and the philosophy of pluralism. Taking the example of
Christianity and Buddhism His holiness is quick to highlight that both religions...
