Running head: COALITION STUDIES IN RELATION TO SEMESTER PROJECT STUDENT Service and Citizenship Coalition Studies Coalition Studies In Relation To Semester Project The coalition studies begs the question, why teamwork? What is borne from teamwork? The essence of forming coalitions is built on the need to pool resources and bring together people with similar minds and goals to solve a problem smoothly and efficiently with more resources and solve the urgency of the problem. My project looks at empowering children who grow up in a society that does not have regard for the welfare of these unfortunate and underprivileged children. The core cause of this is seen in the individualism embedded in the modern social set up, and this has overshadowed collective responsibility. My project embarks on pooling people together to come up with a platform that discusses the plight of the underprivileged children in society. The learning of coalition helps me to understand the essence of the bringing people together while solidifying the objectives of the project and substantiating the reasons why mobilization of people is significant to this project. The most pertinent part of a coalition that is related to the project is based on the goals why an alliance should be set up. This includes the factors that lead to the formation of a coalition. COALITION STUDIES IN RELATION TO SEMESTER PROJECT 1 From the readings, consistency on the issues of children with needs is the most important. This coalition that needs to be formed to advocate for better services to the children is in fact supposed to be a long-term societal issue that will ensure continuity. The coalition will bring together people and companies who can sponsor the children and give a great motivation to their Wisconsin society to take care of their vulnerable members of the community. This in effect will propel other people to take similar actions in other despondent societies, and they might form coalitions that will Last and offer lifetime solutions. While this project aims at bettering the society, it has been greatly inspired by learning the importance of coalitions in handling problems. This includes forming brainstorming groups and the results are as illustrated in the following simple illustration. Teamwork is key to better performance! When parents who abuse drugs such as alcohol, are violent, or are underprivileged raise children, they face numerous challenges, which at times, affect their development. For instance, children who are brought up in such settings tend to internalize messages of insecurity and distrust, as well as hold the belief that they ought to suppress the respective emotional responses characterizing them. Similarly, the dire nature of the social settings in which the children are raised implies that their access to quality education and health care tends to be highly compromised. Beside, the environments that are marred by parental abuse of drugs and use of alcohol have been avowed to translate into a state of neglect. This negative outcome becomes worse in situations where legal actions such as imprisonment are taken, hampering the realization of a supportive and positive parent-to-child relationship. The advent of foster care centers in Wisconsin was a major milestone in addressing the challenges that children who live in the aforementioned families face as they grow. Through foster care centers such as Racine Country Foster Care Centre in Wisconsin, children can grow and experience love and care expected from a supportive parents or caregivers. The Story of Self 2 During my time in the region of Wisconsin, I have witnessed the role that foster care plays in helping children live normal lives. Similarly, childhood experiences shape the nature of my narrative regarding self-aspect. As a child, my parents were caring, loving, and supportive. One of the attributes reflecting this state of parental care was the issue of good communication. Specifically, my parents and I would engage in meaningful and healthy communication while listening and genuinely caring about each other’s views. Hence, communication was on a deep level in which we could share experiences, accomplishments, goals, and feelings. Commitment was another attribute in which we could spend quality time together. Some of the activities that aided in promoting our family included playing sports together, having family outings, and sharing meals together; which became family traditions. Indeed, aspects of respect for each other and commitment to the family marked the presence of a supportive and positive environment in our family. From this experience, I discovered that foster care plays a critical role in enabling children to live lives that are deemed normal and comparable to those of their peers. Some of the critical points or issues that I can recall comprise the challenges I faced each time I saw children suffering in the streets with no one to protect and love them. Translating into a state of child abuse and neglect, the children’s dire state on the streets was marked by unusual interaction, slower-than-normal development, mental health challenges, and behavioral problems such as disinterest in normal activities. Hence, the experiences made me to realize that foster care centers such as Racine play an important role in the society. Lee, Courtney, and Tajima (2014) elucidate that by ensuring that children live normal lives and enjoy the warmth, love, and protection, foster care centers not only improve the future of a nation but also minimize the suffering that young individuals face as they grow. I strongly believe that out of the passion that I have concerning foster care centers, I will engage myself in the activities that focus on improving 3 the lives of children and teenagers living in Racine County Foster Care. Specifically, I will work alongside relevant authorities and embrace community sensitization programs regarding the beneficial role played by foster care at the societal level. Similarly, I will approach community representatives and other senior leaders in non-governmental organizations to advocate for the financing of seminars and conferences seeking to highlight major challenges faced by neglected children ‒ as well as some of the strategies that could be adopted and implemented towards achieving better outcomes. The Story of Now and Us Now (The Urgent Challenge) The present challenge, which requires urgent attention, is the need to minimize the affected children’s suffering ‒ via the provision of basic needs. Research by Dworsky, Napolitano and Courtney (2013) indicated that while foster care centers help to reduce the number of children facing challenges in various families, several other children still experience issues without the knowledge of the personnel in foster care centers. At the personal level, I will strive to sensitize my colleagues and other community leaders regarding the need to intervene. Notably, a stepwise procedure will be employed. The first step will be defining the issue of child neglect and maltreatment before highlighting negative outcomes associated with the needy children. In turn, strategies seeking to connect the latter group to community support opportunities will be established. Specific activities will include early childhood home visiting, the provision of health literacy for new families, and encouraging positive child management strategies. I will also assume a leading role by narrating to the colleagues and community leaders about my childhood experiences and how the supportive and positive nature of my parents shaped by well-being. In so doing, it is projected that the persuasive nature of the message will 4 secure their support, having exhibited a state of emotional connectedness and examined the situation form the perspective of the affected children. The Story of Us In this case, focus is on the society in thee entirety. The main objective is to bring the affected members together towards supporting a common idea and achieving the central objective of steering the spirit of foster care. As concurred by Ganz (2013), the attribute of “us” refers to a situation in which several individuals rally behind or support a given idea. In the context of my narrative, the focus of “us” will be on my colleagues. I will strive to work with them towards the common objective of reducing the number of children suffering in the region. I will also challenge them to help in caring for children with challenges and present the issues to foster centers such as Racine. By airing the problems faced by children and teenagers to the center, the group is poised to embrace the spirit of togetherness ‒ as outlined in the provisions of a public narrative. 5 References Dworsky, A., Napolitano, L., & Courtney, M. Strategy outline
This project aims to create awareness about the needs of the children living in Wisconsin
either in abusive situations or those needing foster care to enable them to lead decent childhood.
This is a projected dedicated solely to finding a long-term solution for underprivileged children
by sensitising the community through physical on ground campaigns for the children’s plight.
This is the main reason why everything in the strategy is set to notify the people about a social
responsibility they are neglecting as days go by.
To help and send this message to the right people, the project aims at very specific ways
of gaining an audience and making the people aware of the campaign. Due to the diversity of
information communication methods, a mixture of both digital and physical campaign strategies
will help in getting the most significant number of people aware of the issue at hand. One of the
most critical methods was an online platform created specifically to gain followers and update
the followers on the physical activities that will be involved. The theory of prioritising this
platform is that it will capture the age bracket that is less likely to be aware of the plight of these
children that is the young people. However, if we get to have the teenagers and youths taking up
the campaign positively, even the parents will find it a worthy cause. The online platform will be
on three significant social media handles that is
