In 399 BC, an Athens man stood trial for corruption and impiety. The man was called
Socrates, and he presented a speech as a self-defense on his trial. The speech famously came to
be known as the Apology of Socrates. Today in our understanding, the so-called Plato's the
apology is by no means an apology but was Socrates attempts to defend himself and not to
apologize for any of his actions. Socrates tells the court that he had no experience in the ways of
the court and thus they were to excuse him because he was going to speak in the manner he
understands which is direct and with honesty. Socrates amazes the court by saying that he is
wiser than all the men but he knows nothing and yet the oracle prophesied that he was the wisest
of all men. Philosopher Socrates was charged with a crime of not believing in the gods in which
the whole city believed on and also he was accused of corrupting the young people in the city.
Socrates has to defend himself, and first starts doing that by calling his main accuser who was
called Meletus. Socrates decided that he was going to use a cross-examination strategy which
was famously known as elenchus to interrogate Meletus. Socrates interrogation on Meletus was
primarily based on embarrassing Meletus. Socrates uses an analogy to show his importance in
