The Educational and Training Requirements for Male and Female Police Officers

The requirements for female police officers are the same as those of women police officers. One will have to attend a police academy; these depend on the jurisdiction one is in or whether they have been sent by an agency. An individual requires to put in an application, undergo physical screening and interview, a written test, oral board, a physical agility test, a lie detecting test, background check and an interview with the chief of staff (Peters, Richard Stanley, 145).

The applications to be police officers can only be accepted at the age of eighteen. However, there is no upper limit for use. The standard retirement age is sixty years. Note that that the recruits are needed to undertake a probationary period of two years. The person applies must be a citizen of the state they are applicable to work. For foreigners who have stayed in the country for an extended period of time shall pass as they wait for clearance of both security and vetting. All those who have applied shall undergo the same standard of vetting before they are appointed.

The criminal record of the applicant is also checked. One needs to have a clean criminal record to be selected. Receiving of formal caution between the past five years, committing a violent crime or any public order offence will lead to automatic rejection. Applicants should not have tattoos especially if they are prominent, offensive is served to undermine the dignity and authority of the applicant’s role.

To be given this job, an individual has to be physically fit. Therefore, they shall undertakea fitness test. It is critical to making it in this test before one is appointed. The police are looking for the minimum standard to enable an individual perform their task diligently. The applicants shall be given help to improve their fitness for maximum output. There are two sides to the fitness; health strength and the ability to endure.

The financial status of the applicants will be checked. The above is because they will have access to information that may make them vulnerable to corruption. Therefore, bankruptapplicants will be rejected (Porter, John, 134). Healthwise, the police officers, need to be resilient enough to cope with the pressure and demands that come with police work. Therefore, applicants must be in good health to get the job. The applicants will be required to undergo a medical test to ensure that they meet the health standards required of them.

The applicants have to undergo an eye test which they are required to pass. The above is because the individuals need sharp eyesight to be able to fulfil their duties diligently. If a person has ever applied before but has been rejected, they cannot use immediately again. One has to wait for six months to elapse before they make another application.

All Individuals who apply will be subjected to random drug tests during the recruitment process. Failing this test may lead to immediate rejection (Porter, John, 234). Last but not least police officers need to qualify educationally. Educational needs range from a high school to a college degree. The applicants need to submit their original testimonials for consideration.
