ENGLISH 102, FALL 2017 Due Fri 12/1 Assignment 17: Reflective Essay Draft In addition to your completed inquiry-based research essay (10-12 pages), you’ll also need to include substantial reflective writing as part of your final portfolio for ENG 102. Per the course goals, your reflective writing: • • • Discusses the evolution of your project in relation to the project’s audience(s), its stakeholders, inquiry and exigency. Analyzes and evaluates composing and design strategies given your rhetorical situation and understanding of academic writing and research. Explains how and why sources were chosen and used in the project Throughout the semester, you have produced freewriting, reflective assignments, and peer review notes that documented your thoughts, questions/concerns, research processes, and general, shifting understanding of your project. Now is the time to revisit this previous work and see what it tells you about how your project has come together into a full draft. Drafting Reflective Writing Draft 3-4 pages of reflective writing (*you’ll need 4-6 pages total for the final portfolio) that addresses the goals above and accounts for some of the major writing and revision choices you’ve made throughout your research project so far. If you’re struggling to think about what to write about: • Look back at the work you did earlier in the semester, and make a new claim about the way that your understanding of academic research and writing has changed. • Tell us what insights you might now have about the ways that your controlling purpose evolved in the research paper, or how your awareness of audience/stakeholders grew through the texts you read. • Try to paint a picture of yourself as a writer for the portfolio review readers. (How did your rhetorical situation influence your research, the sense of stakes and audience for your project, etc.?) • Pick out a few major revisions you’ve made and/or that you need to make on your project. Talk through what each revision is, why it’s important, what made you decide to revise in this way, and what goal(s) are being better met by said revisions. It is expected that you will end up with 4-6 pages of revised and edited reflective writing to include in the Final Portfolio. The form this writing takes is up to you (short essay format, annotations to your revised research essay, map of how your project changed over time, etc.)— remember that this is your chance to make a case for your work meeting the course goals. For our next class… Please make sure to bring a copy of both your reflective writing and your full research essay draft to our next class (in addition to uploading it on D2L).

First of all, moving to a new State can be frustrating. In this case, moving to Wisconsin
requires that I comprehend the nature of life there and how the people react with regard to the
current president, Trump, by examining on whether or not the Republican support for Trump in
Wisconsin was the same as it was nationwide.
Most people note that the foundation of the presidency of Donald Trump was a negation
of the legacy of Barack Obama. Therefore, the election of Donald Trump to office with his
greatest support in Wisconsin, can be said to be a revenge of the white man. No one predicted
that Donald Trump would win the vote for President of the United States. Even though he had a
great support in Wisconsin, it was not the case nationwide. One would assert that Hillary Clinton
would have been the country’s first president since he got majority support from different states.
It is inadequate to state the obvious of Donald Trump: that he is a white man and would not have
been the president if it were not for the white-man’s anger.
