According to Williams (2010), Shirley Bassey is a world-famous welsh singer born in the
Tiger bay region of wales on January 8, 1937. Shirley Bassey is renowned for her three
remarkable theme songs in James Bond’s well known London based movie. She started her
career quite at a young age of fifteen years after leaving school and began singing at clubs, prior
to her recording deal that ended with her achieving a milestone by having a first solo song out
four years later.
The singer achieved a lot as a music personality, being able to receive a myriad of awards
that included the queen giving her the title ‘Dame' due to the impact that her music had imposed.
She achieved her first award in the late 1950s, in which she was honored for being for the best
_loved British Female artist. Her awards did not only stop there in the early 1970’s, but she was
named the Best female performer by a panel of the American artists despite the segregation that
was predominant in vast regions of the world at that time. In 1993, she achieved another
milestone from Queen Elizabeth, who was equally a fan of her music accorded her the title
Dame. Shirley, in the year 2000 received her slot in the Guinness book of records for being the
most successful British singer (Williams 2010).
Being the first black British singer to be accorded with global fame regardless of the
isolation-based on one's skin tone that was prevalent, she equally impacted on the culture of
London. She played a significant role in reducing the segregation of people due to racism. It
equally inspired the young that they could achieve whatever they set their minds to, but it
requires determination and constant hard work (Jennings 2012). Her event received an award
from the UNESCO equally for impacting peace as well.
