The novel theme focuses on crime and investigations. The key focused crime being the
death of one of the characters which are half presumed to be an accident however some have a
contrary opinion branding it ‘murder.’ It leads to the hiring of investigator expected to come up
with a conclusive report on the matter. The strike is his name. Despite the fact of being from a
family where the father is deeply rooted in the fashion music world, he took up the professional
path landing him a job as an investigator.
Robin Ellacott gets to work as the secretary to Strike who is a private investigator in the
novel. However, we see Robin working an inch further where she ventures into helping in the
investigations conducted. This character concludes her being an inquisitive and a hardworking
person. She is more dedicated to her work as opposed to how much salary she earns from the job.
It is another attribute, which depicts her urge of helping her society in finding the truth about the
crime.
My opinion about Robin Ellacott; is that she is a woman who stands by her words. When
we look into Robin’s character that is in the novel, Robin, does all that deems right according to
her even if it is contrary to someone else opinion. One instance was when she landed herself a
better paying job but opted not to quit her work as Strike’s secretary. It tells the whole reading
society that she is a self-determined woman who stops at nothing to work towards her goals.
Her character in the novel portrays determination among other attributes of the society.
When we go deep down and base on gender, we can also conclude that her character depicts the

art of non-gender based society. Both men and women are open to the same type of opportunity
and job in this society. Being a woman, she delivers in fact much more, that is equal to Strikes
