This is a persuasive speech. The reason is that Megan tries to tell people to stop apologizing for a culture
that people always do when they fill like they have offended the other party. She wants to convince
people that apology should only be made when a person fills that they need to apologize.
2. What is the speaker’s main purpose? If they have a thesis sentence, identify it.
The main purpose of the speaker is to make sure that when people express their apologies, they are
genuine from their heart but not because they have to say it. She wants to make sure that people stop
saying sorry anytime they wrong a person or feel like they have done wrong and only do it when they
feel like they have to apologize. The thesis sentence of the speech is “If you are conscious of your
choices and have strong, thoughtful reasoning for your choices, you should not have to apologize.”

The speaker constructs their audience as any person who minds a lot of what other people are feeling,
