Description

In a 4-6 page written assignment, answer the following questions. 1) Define evolution using the course materials. 2) Define physical anthropology. Discuss some of the general ways physical anthropologists investigate evolution. 3) Using the APUS Library, find at least one appropriate outside source that identifies one specific research project in which physical anthropologists are studying evolution (e.g. the Human Genome Project). Describe the research project and its significance in our understanding of evolution. Conduct original research, do not use the genome project because that example is given in class. Review this screencast or script to help you learn to locate appropriate college-level sources using the Summon search tool in our Library. 4) Choose and define a second subfield of anthropology (cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, or archaeology). 5) Discuss some of the general ways an anthropologist in this second subfield investigates evolution. *Remember, evolution can apply to both physical and societal changes, so things like language and customs can evolve just as much as bodies and brains can. 6) Using the APUS Library, find at least one appropriate outside source that identifies one specific research project in which anthropologists in this second subfield are studying evolution. Describe the research project and its significance in our understanding of evolution. For example, an archaeologist may look at how tools have changed through time, and what has caused that change (conduct your own original research, do not use this example). 8 ) Discuss how the study of evolution between physical anthropology and your chosen subfield compares and contrasts. 9) Conclude by discussing and reflecting on one new piece of information you learned about evolution.

Evolution Definition
Evolution has been defined as a successful continuous change in the genetic composition
of an organism which changes one or more of their traits which helps them to increase the
adaptation characteristics and intelligence (Tuomaala, Järvelin & Vakkari, 2014). However, in
the evolution process, some of the some of the species flourish to the other stage whereas others
become extinct which occurs by the process of natural selection were due to genetics change
which can cause genetic alternation which affects the production and growth of a species.
Physical Anthropology
Physical anthropology is said to be the changing of the organisms along the genetic
lineage over time and the study of the study of the organisms to the new environment and also
the hardship that comes with this changes for survival. However, the study shows that some traits
remain constant while others change gradually over the time when an organism is evolving from
one generation to another. The changes can take over billions of years before they are realized.
General Ways That Anthropologists Investigate Evolution
Physical anthropologists work to establish both human and nonhuman lineage evolution
over the years, physical and mental changes and the extent as well as the behavior change. There
are various ways in which the anthropologists have been studying this process. One of them is
paleoanthropology whereby help of other scientists such as earth scientists, archaeologists
biologists, and the cultural anthropologists, they are able to investigate the human evolution and
the relationship between the early man and the modern man (Tuomaala, Järvelin & Vakkari,
2014). The second one is primatology where anthropologists study the mammals’ skeleton
muscles that connect different parts of the body. This study has established that the limb

proportion and development of muscle is relative to the adaptation in the trees and the ground.
Third, genetics is another way that anthropologists investigate evolution. This is where they
analyze the organisms DNA sequences.
In the recent past, the geographical population of a human being has been described in
terms of rate of gene change over a particular time and combin...
