What are the basic features of the three major periods of Egyptian history?
The ancient Egyptian history happened in a series of kingdoms which were separated by
three significant periods of instability referred to as the intermediate periods. These were the Old
Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom (Barstad, 2008). The three kingdoms had
various features. In the Old Kingdom, the main feature was Pharaoh who was considered as
godly and referred to as the son of Ra, the sun god. The other feature is the foreseen flooding of
the Nile which allowed Pharaoh to command it somewhat and reinforced this concept to the
people. This period was also marked by internal wars which brought disorder in the country and
consequently resulted in a decline in trade. The last feature during this period was that Egypt, in
the end, ended up without an army
