Introduction
Developing countries are classified according to their Gross National Income per capita
in a year. According to World Bank (2013) countries which possess a Gross National Income per
capita that is below $11905 are said to be developing countries. Colombia falls into the category
of developing countries and is regarded as a growing and diversified economy. Colombia is also
among the oldest democracies within Latin America. The country is rich in natural resources, has
functional institutions and also a sound judicial system (Packenham, 2015). The country’s
agricultural activities include coffee, bananas, tobacco, sugarcane etc. It also has oil, food
processing, and textile industries. Therefore, this paper seeks to analyze the effects of peace and
war on the distribution of aid; leadership action as regards to utilization of the foreign aid and if
the extension of aid has been successful in the reduction of poverty as well as the incidences of
war in Columbia.
