Ethical Dilemmas
Stem Cell Research
The stem cell research has been a subject of controversy for long with those who are
against it citing human dignity being violated in the process and those who are for it citing the
immaturity of the embryo used in the research hence the process cannot warrant for a destruction
of life as those against it are trying to portray. The objective of the stem cell research is to try an
establish a clearer understanding of human development and differentiation with the aim and hop
of establishing treatment and cure for diseases such as diabetes, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s
diseases and myocardial infraction.
Critics view that destroying a blastula, where a fertilized egg grows before being
implanted in the uterus is destroying human life. However, my opinion is of the view that he
embryo is not yet mature enough to warrant human life hence destroying it does not necessary
imply you are destroying human life since unless the cells in the blastula are implanted in the
uterus wall, they stand no chance of survival and developing into a baby. Considering the fact
that the research holds hope for the establishment of treatments and cures for diseases such as
diabetes and spinal cord injuries, this then justifies the research are a process done in goodwill.
