Hameed Alsowaidi ENC 1102 Jan 26th- 2018 Fossil Fuel Thesis: Consumers and environmentalist need to work together to achieve a sustainabl alternative energy that is cheap and clean in the same time. OUTLINE: I. INTRO: -introduce both sides. -Show the relation between them. -What is the issue. -write the thesis that the paper would be based on. II. BODY: -Present first side point of view and argument. A. Obstacles of converting to alternative energy. -Present second side point of view and argument. A. How are fossil fuels are harmful to the environment. B. What are the effects of fossil fuels. -Write both sides arguments and reach a compromise. A. Alternative energy, clean. III. CONCLUSION: Restate the thesis and support the paper’s mission. Annotated bibliography: Delucchi, Mark, and Mark Z.Jacobson. “A Path To Sustainable Development” Scientific American, Nov 2009. January 26, 2018 Hameed Alsowaidi ENC 1102 Jan 26th- 2018 This article was created by Jacobson (Professor, Stanford) and Mark A. Delucchi (analyst, UC Davis). It's entitled "A Path to Sustainable Energy". (p 58 – 65; they call it WWS: wind, water or sunlight) Wind, water and solar technologies can give 100 percent of the world's energy, dismissing the need to consume fossil fuels with every petroleum product, to use clean technology only. This article will play a huge role to reach a compromise. Since it gives a great deal of data with respect to alternative sources of energy and environment friendly ones as well. Union of Concerned Scientists. (2018). Barriers to Renewable Energy Technologies. [online] Available at: https://www.ucsusa.org/clean-energy/renewable-energy/barriers-torenewable-energy#.WmrQ1rpFzD4 [Accessed 26 Jan. 2018]. This source explains the obstacles that people might face when converting to alternative energy as stated in the topic “Barriers to Renewable Energy Technologies”. This source will fit perfectly for the stakeholders that support the usage of fossil fuels and its consumption. Moreover, it offers various reasons about why shifting is difficult for some. Union of Concerned Scientists. (2018). The Hidden Costs of Fossil Fuels. [online] Available at: https://www.ucsusa.org/clean-energy/coal-and-other-fossil-fuels/hidden-costof-fossils#.Wmrb4LpFzD4 [Accessed 26 Jan. 2018]. This source explains all the reasons why fossil fuels should be banned and be replaced with alternative, clean energy. This source is a very good source of information and knowledge to help support the cause of the opposing view.

Steel is a very carbon intensive industry, and there is often skepticism as to whether the
industry will ever be able to go green. Steel is an instrumental metal as it facilities most of the
infrastructure we use in our everyday life. Steel is used in areas such as agriculture, transport,
water transport among others. It, however, does not occur naturally and there is need to reduce it
using carbon. This means that coal is used. In the world currently, 74% of the steel produced
makes use of coal, and as a result, the carbon footprint is enormous. ArcelorMittal, one of the
largest producers of steel in the world has one of the biggest carbon footprints as a result.
Production of one ton of steel releases about 2 tons of carbon dioxide. Steel production accounts
for about 5% of total greenhouse gases released in the world. The industry has tried to find ways
to eliminate carbon from the production process, but there has been very little success in this
endeavor. They are as a result forced to focus mostly on recycling and reusing; scrap metals are
however not enough to meet the demand for steel (Arcelormittal, n.d.). Center for Clean Air
Policy (CCAP) however holds that it is possible to limit carbon emission from the steel industry.
The organization is of the opinion that steel companies do not do enough to try and reduce their
emission by using environmentally sustainable techniques. They can do this by using resources
more efficient, recycling and reusing. Not to mention investing in research to find innovative
ways to reduce emission and to promote the environmentally sustainable technology. The
negative effects of steel manufacturing ar...
