Description
The Intermediate Draft should be an essay (1200-1400 words) that explains the perspectives of two different stakeholders on a given issue or topic, identifies common ground the two stakeholders share, and proposes and argues for a compromise that benefits both stakeholders. This draft should include a thesis, all major points, evidence to support these points (including in-text citations from appropriate sources), and a Works Cited page.
- You are required to have four sources.
- One from each stakeholder
- two others sources are to be scholarly/peer-reviewed sources use it in the compromise.

Steel is a very carbon intensive industry, and there is often skepticism as to whether the
industry will ever be able to go green. Steel is an instrumental metal as it facilities most of the
infrastructure we use in our everyday life. Steel is used in areas such as agriculture, transport,
water transport among others. It, however, does not occur naturally and there is need to reduce it
using carbon. This means that coal is used. In the world currently, 74% of the steel produced
makes use of coal, and as a result, the carbon footprint is enormous. ArcelorMittal, one of the
largest producers of steel in the world has one of the biggest carbon footprints as a result.
Production of one ton of steel releases about 2 tons of carbon dioxide. Steel production accounts
for about 5% of total greenhouse gases released in the world. The industry has tried to find ways
to eliminate carbon from the production process, but there has been very little success in this
endeavor. They are as a result forced to focus mostly on recycling and reusing; scrap metals are
however not enough to meet the demand for steel (Arcelormittal, n.d.). Center for Clean Air
Policy (CCAP) however holds that it is possible to limit carbon emission from the steel industry.
The organization is of the opinion that steel companies do not do enough to try and reduce their
emission by using environmentally sustainable techniques. They can do this by using resources
more efficient, recycling and reusing. Not to mention investing in research to find innovative
ways to reduce emission and to promote the environmentally sustainable technology. The
negative effects of steel manufacturing ar...
