The city is now trying to work out how to replace those jobs and also find an industry base that won't be off-shored and would continue to grow. After a meeting with the State Department of Economic Development as well as Chamber of Commerce and other economic stakeholders, the learner finds out that the three primary options for a large new employer would be an oil refinery (oil rig off the coast already established), a hybrid car factory, or a Big Box store distribution center. Based on the presentation and your notes, list 3 key takeaways from the distribution center proposal A big number of jobs will not be created by the distribution center. But, it will bring about a small amount of jobs to our town. With it being a business consisting of vehicles, with them consistently going in and out the vehicle emission may have a little bit of an impact on the environment. I don’t believe that the emissions from the vehicles is a whole lot to worry about, given that the business itself wont emit any chemicals or gases that are harmful into our environment. A good thing to point out is that their water consumption will be minimal. The one thing that was a little scary is that they do not have a sustainability plan. Based on the presentation and your notes, list 3 key takeaways from the car factory proposal. The car factory proposal seems to offer a lot more jobs than the last. They also seem to be more environment focused. The car factory proposal will be producing vehicles that are environmental friendly. Because they offer employee transportation by emission free buses is definitely a plus. They also give discounts on the vehicles that are emission free to the employees that should keep down vehicle emission in our town. Also, she stated that on site they will have filtering systems and water recycling that should keep the water waste in our town down too. This town is focused on the ecosystem in our town and not just the environment. The sustainability plan they have is a very good one. Based on the presentation and your notes, list 3 key takeaways from the oil refinery proposal. In my opinion she was a little unclear in responding to my questions. The first question I asked was concerning the waste/water consumption. She said to me that they had a system that had been tested over and over, but failed to let me know what the system was. I inquired about the sustainability plan for the community, and the answer I received was in the same way. In my opinion the emissions from an oil refinery would have a negative impact on our community. She showed little concern in respect to the health of our ecosystem. Her only concern seemed to be getting the refinery into the town. I do believe this company would produce more jobs in our town, it is my belief that it would be ill-advised to permit them to come to Sparksville. Based on what you know so far, which of the three facility proposals would you recommend to the City Council? Why? I would recommend that we permit the car manufacturer to come to our town. I don’t think the furniture distribution center will create enough jobs and they had no set plan on how they would protect the environment. It is my belief that the old refinery will really do a lot of harm to our environment. Their spokesperson really did not give me a straightforward answer to the questions I proposed or asked. The car manufacturer had direct answers that were well thought out to my questions and they would provide a suitable amount of jobs. They had a plan on how to reduce vehicle emission, waste, and water consumption, also, they had an impressive sustainability plan for our community. How did you reach a balance of economic, environmental and political issues in reaching to your decision? What I picked was the hybrid car factory due to the reasoning that it provided a decent amount of jobs and had just a risk that basically was moderate on our environment. It was kind of tricky to put the car factory in the correct place at the right time and to make the correct decisions. We chose to go with the lithium ion battery for the autos to make them more efficient and safe for our environment. Also, picking the railroad to provide the transport for these cars was safe for our environment due to it lessening the vehicle emission of moving the cars to other areas. We chose to construct the factory in the forest and the business profits aided in repairing the forest damage. Now with the benefit of hindsight, would you make the same recommendation? Why or why not? In regards to my decision, I would not have changed it. There was an insufficient amount of jobs offered by the furniture distribution company to our town. In controlling water waste, they basically had no real plan. They did not even have a plan of sustainability for our town. In my opinion the oil refinery would have done a lot of harm to our community and surrounding areas. The car factory (hybrid) had our/their best interest at heart. Even though that they initially did cause some damage to our forest by constructing the company there, they repaired the damage they caused. They furnished a sufficient amount of jobs to support our community. It is my belief that the decision I made benefited our community and the company itself.

Introduction
As a newly elected Mayor of Sparksville, I would like to welcome each one of you to the
meeting. My main focus as a Mayor is to assure all the residents of the town and citizens that I
have a good plan to promote local economy while at the same time maintaining a high level of
the environmental air quality.

The current economic state in Sparksville is that the largest employer company has
moved to South Korea thus leaving behind an economic gap. However, there is a big need for
another company by the community so as to stimulate the economy as well as the job market
which will in return promote the Sparksville’s revenue. The current economy is struggling
because there is no any other major company in Sparksville which is able to improve the
business (Hassenzahl et al., 2014). There are only three choices for the city to consider, they
include oil r...
