In Chapter 1, Six Reader-Centered Strategies that Technical Writers can begin using now are listed on page 15. After reviewing these strategies, locate the website of an employer you might like to work for and review it for use of these six strategies.

Review the basics of business memos in Chapter 21 of the text (see pages 374-376), then respond to the following questions in a formal business memo to your Instructor. Be sure to provide the name of the company and the website address in your memo:

  • 1) Which of these strategies does this website use well? Identify and explain at least 2 of these, using examples.
  • 2) Which could it use more effectively? Identify and explain at least 2 of these using examples.

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria, at minimum:

  • Audience: Has the appropriate audience been considered for the document and/or has consideration been given to the scenario described in the assignment?
  • Format: Is the document formatted according to assignment requirements and standard business practices?
  • Document Elements: Does the document include all necessary elements, per the assignment and the particular type of document?
  • Language, Mechanics, Grammar: Does the document use acceptable business language/style? Is the document free from errors in spelling, grammar, mechanics and punctuation?
