Review lesson information presented in the lesson about effective listening, the listening process, and types of listening. This information includes the following: Identify your listening goalListen for major ideasSeparate facts from inferencesDetermine whether the speech is balanced and honest Step 2: Select one of the following informative speeches to view and critique. View the speech about Vincent Van Gogh. View the speech about getting to know the elderly. Step 3: Watch the speech and listen carefully to the message. Assume that the speech is live and that you have one opportunity to grasp the information as described in Step 1. Note information that you feel would be sufficient for providing an informative summary of the speech. Step 4: Write a summary. Briefly summarize the speech according to criteria listed in Step 1.
