With the US having many states, each one of these states has its way of selecting judges
for the diverse courts within the states. This is one area that is supposed to be undertaken with
much integrity and without influence from outside forces as this could lead to incompetence in
the various courts hence affecting the way justice is granted. This paper, therefore, seeks to
explore the process of the judicial selection process as well as the requirements for one to
become a judge in both Virginia and Arizona states in the US.
Virginia Judicial Selection Process
The judicial selection process is a process through which judges for various courts are
selected depending on the criteria used in a particular country. In the US, each state has its
process of selecting judges. In Virginia, the highest court is the supreme court of Virginia which
has both appellate and original jurisdictions as well as reviewing decisions made by lower courts.
The judicial selection process in Virginia is through a legislative election, a process the state of
Virginia had used for a long period even before it was granted statehood. This type of judicial
selection process is unique to the state of Virginia, and the only other state which employs this
form is South Carolina. Through this selection process, the selection of judges for the various
